Defence Contract Win

We’re delighted to confirm that we’ve been awarded a £1.65 million contract by The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL), an executive agency of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) of the United Kingdom, to design, develop, qualify, and supply complex integrated systems.

This significant programme will be delivered from our newly established Integrated Systems facility, reinforcing our commitment to supporting the UK’s defence capabilities with sovereign designed and manufactured innovative, high-quality engineered solutions.

Sharing Defence Tech at DSEI

We’ve just wrapped up a hugely successful week at DSEI – the UK’s leading trade show for the Defence and Security sector.

The event showcased the latest developments in equipment and technology for military and defence applications. Each of our Business Units have strong offerings for this sector, and our booth at the show was buzzing as we shared:

Communications: A comprehensive range of MANET datalink products to enable secure video, voice and situational awareness data for personnel in the field. Supported by partners Persistent Systems, CISTECH Solutions and SensorOps.

Computing: Multifunction operator console, custom designed for use on surface ships and submarines. Plus our skills in designing, testing and manufacturing products to military and TEMPEST standards.

Antennas: Our threat emitter antenna positioner system. This is just one of our many specialist products, which also include systems for ELINT, EW and Spectrum Management applications.

Imaging: High-resolution AF-Zoom camera integrated in a rugged housing and pan-and-tilt unit.

Power: Custom-built UAV battery, designed to optimise SWaP requirements in a compact form.

Custom Power and Volklec Unite to Electrify UK Defence with End-to-End Battery Solutions

We are delighted to announce that our sister company, Custom Power, has joined forces with Volklec, the UK’s only independent battery manufacturer, to deliver a sovereign, end-to-end energy solution for the UK defence sector.

This strategic partnership creates a fully integrated capability, from cell development through to battery pack design, manufacture, delivery and support, tailored to meet the rigorous demands of defence prime providers. At its core, Custom Power’s bespoke battery and power systems are paired with Volklec’s proven 21700 lithium-ion cell technology to ensure consistent, high-performance energy delivery in the most challenging operational environments.

Management News from Custom Power

We’re delighted to announce that Dave Crossman, General Manager of Custom Power in the UK, has been promoted to Global VP & General Manager. He will now take operational responsibility for the worldwide Custom Power business, covering the facilities in Crewkerne and Newcastle in the UK as well as Fountain Valley in the US. Dave will continue to drive a unified global strategy, focused on accelerated growth and enhanced customer value.

This allows Brian Goodman, current COO of the Custom Power business in Fountain Valley, to move into a more strategic role as Chief Corporate Development Officer & General Counsel, USA for the Solid State group.

These changes align with Solid State’s vision to further expand Custom Power while seamlessly connecting its global operations, reflecting similar ambitions for other divisions across the Solid State group.

Matthew Richards continues in his role as Managing Director for Custom Power and also Steatite, delivering steady and cohesive group-wide leadership. He maintains his position on the board of Solid State plc.

Enabling a secure voice, video, and high bandwidth data network anywhere

We’re delighted to have confirmed a partnership between our Communications Business Unit and CISTECH Solutions.

We’ve been working closely with CISTECH for a number of years and offer their MACE, GV1 and Oi Ecosystem communication solutions to customers in military, defence, first responder and security sectors, or for any application which requires reliable and scalable networking.

MACE (Mobile Ad-hoc Communications Environment) is the situational awareness software which drives our CRiB and provides a flexible dynamic interface for the visualisation, configuration, and control of operational aspects of a MANET network. MACE’s ability to self-learn the network reduces complexities of adding nodes to the interface and provides a readily accessible overview of your deployed network from the perspective of the operator.

The GV1 suite of products offers radio over IP gateway solutions, allowing users on smartphones to talk to traditional and MANET based radios and laptops, and transmit voice over SATCOM, all without a server. The rugged, compact form factor of the GV1 is ideally suited for mission-critical voice communications over IP networks in fixed and mobile roles.

The Oi Ecosystem consists of software and hardware devices designed to provide push-to-talk voice technology in any environment. These provide end-to-end AES-256 encryption between desktop, mobile and radio gateway devices, for total protection of voice communications across your network.

This partnership further strengthens our portfolio of products enabling a secure voice, video, and high bandwidth data network anywhere, offering unparalleled performance in critical situations and challenging environments.
