Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award

Armed forces covenant and ERS silver award logos

We’re proud to confirm that we’ve been awarded Silver in the Defence ERS scheme in light of our sustained commitment to supporting the armed forces community.

When we signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2022, we committed to recognise the value that serving personnel, both regular and reservists, veterans, and military families contribute to our business and our country. We’ve incorporated several processes into our recruiting and employment processes to actively create supportive environments for this community, and to leverage the benefits that it brings to our business.

We are delighted that these efforts have been recognised at the highest level. We’re even more delighted that we continue to attract talented veterans and reservists to strengthen our business.

What does committing to the Armed Forces Covenant mean? Find out more about it.

Falklands Ride of Respect

A veteran, war memorial and commemorative wreath

We proudly support Armed Forces personnel, past and present, through our signing of the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Falklands Ride of Respect is an annual motorcycle event organised by the Airborne Forces Riders Motorcycle club, a branch of the Parachute Regimental Association, to visit every gravesite or memorial in the UK of those killed during the 1982 Falklands Conflict, paying tribute to the fallen and supporting veterans through fundraising for the South Atlantic Medal Association (SAMA 82), a charity supporting Falklands veterans.

The ride typically covers 15 separate regions across the UK, with each team visiting local memorials and gravesites. Our Security Controller, Andy Connelly, took part in Ride No: 6 covering the Midlands.

The ride has historically raised thousands of pounds for SAMA 82, helping veterans with welfare, support, and recognition. Participants and supporters often receive updates on fundraising progress and can contribute via the SAMA website.

The pictures were taken in Walsall, for the memorial for Pte Mark Dodsworth 3 Para and Mne John Nowak 45 Cdo RM in Derby who both lost their lives towards the end of the conflict. The wreath was laid at the NMA Falklands Memorial by Andy.

Gary Marsh 1966 – 2025

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Gary Marsh, our CEO, has sadly passed away after a short illness. Having been a part of the business for nearly 40 years, Gary was a leader and friend to many of us within the Solid State family.

Gary was a very approachable and friendly person, and undertook his role with huge dedication, humour, and always with a smile. To many of us, he was not just our CEO, but also a highly respected colleague and friend. We are grateful for the incomparable legacy he leaves.

His commitment to Solid State was total and he oversaw exceptional growth and geographical business expansion, but always with the best interests of his employees at heart. He has been a constant inspiration to us all and will be sadly missed.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this very difficult time.

John Macmichael, Managing Director of Solsta, will stand in as Interim CEO, with the support of the Board of Directors and senior management team, to ensure continuity and stability across the Group.
